Getting the Shot

As in life; photography is often about angles- how you look at something changes what it says to you, and how it makes you feel. Sometimes a simple photo goes from ordinary to extraordinary by a tilt of the camera, and an experienced eye.

In the past week (between house renos!) I photographed two people who are very close to my heart. My uber talented sister Brit is about to have her second baby and wanted a photo of her and her tummy with her camera. This was an easy shoot- we had fun and got some lovely photos. Getting the shot with maternity photos is all about angle and getting a photo that shows momma how beautiful she is.

The second shoot was the brand new daughter of my very first friend Tera-lee. Sweet baby Nora was a dream to photograph; she slept the whole time and let us pose her to our hearts content! For the first time I was able to get a newborn into some tough poses and it was so special to have Tera-lee to help, and her sweet baby to get this shot. The key to newborn photos is patience and practice. If I had tried this pose two years ago it would have been impossible but it all fell into place; the perfect time, the perfect subject, the perfect shot.
